Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan has now signed Deepa Mehta’s much talked movie Midnight’s Children, which has seasoned actors like Shabana Azmi, Seema Biswas, Nandita Das, and Irrfan Khan.

The movie is an adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s Booker Prize winning novel with the same title. The film will start shooting later this year.

Soha is very excited to get this role but she is not ready to open her mouth about this film. The actress said that she had never worked with such a senior like Deepa so she is honored to get the chance. It is going to be her second film with any female director, the other one is Sangeeta, the director of her movie Life Goes On.

Soha said jokingly that Deepa would kill her if she speaks up about the film. As the film is in its in initial stage, the actress was asked to keep quiet about it.

Vidya Balan loses ‘Rascals’ for leaving ‘Dhamaal 2′

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, who has recently walked out of the movie Dhamaal 2, has lost a solo heroine role in Rascals, which is the first film of Sanjay Dutt Productions (SDP). David Dhawan is directing Rascals. Sanjay Dutt also stars Dhamaal 2 along with few other actors.

Initially, the actress agreed to be a part of Dhamaal 2 but asked for a whooping amount of Rs 1.5 crore as fee. The producers refused to pay such a huge amount and she walked out of the movie. She was then replaced by Mallika Sherawat.

It is reported that when Vidya came to know about Rascals, the actress expressed her desire to be a part of it to the director David Dhawan. But, her refusal to Dhamaal 2 cost her movie as Sanjay was not very happy with her. He did not wish to take her in this film. Earlier Dutt and Vidya have worked together in Lage Raho Munnabhai and also in her debut movie Parineeta.

The lead female role in Rascals required a youthful charming woman so everyone in the unit wanted a fresh face. Sanjay Dutt, Dharam Oberoi, who is the business manager and CEO of SDP, and director David Dhawan shortlisted Anushka Sharma, Lara Dutta, and Kangna Ranaut for the role. However, Kangana Ranaut got lucky finally to bag the role.

David Dhawan said, “Vidya Balan was not suitable for this role even though she is a fine actress. This is the only reason we did not sign her for Rascals. I am sure Vidya does not mind as she is a good friend, we will work on another film together”.

Imran Khan said NO to Anil Kapoors’s Offer

Sonam Kapoor and her sister Rhea who produces Aisha offered the male lead to Sonam’s pal Imran Khan. At that time Imran and Sonam were already doing I Hate Luv Storys and had become great buddies. Naturally Sonam presumed Imran would happily do her home production.

But the Kapoor family was in for a shock when Imran declined the offer pleading there was not much for him to do.

Anil admits Imran was indeed the first choice for Abhay Deol’s role.

Says the candid star-actor, “Rhea and Sonam did send the script over to Imran. I don’t know why he didn’t do it. Maybe, he was wary of a script that was named after the heroine. But Abhay is the perfect choice”.

After Imran’s refusal, Anil immediately commanded the Aisha team to rechristen the film. “I told them no hero would take a film seriously if it is named after the heroine. I ordered them to call the film ‘Production No. 3’ not Aisha. I was different I did so many heroine-centric films like Beta with Madhuri Dixit and Lamhe with Sridevi. Even Mr. India was more Sri’s picture although it was our home production.”

Anil is very proud of his daughters for having managed Aisha all on their own. “I did nothing. I gave Sonam and Rhea a free hand. I was there to help them with inputs. But Aisha is completely their baby. Now we’re planning 2-3 new productions. One of them would definitely have Sonam in it.”

Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor on the lookout for their Dream Home

The flats on top floor of the apartment that is on construction just opposite Fortune Heights have nothing much to do with the whopping prices of real estate properties in Bandra west. It is the apartment owned by Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor on the tenth floor of Fortune Heights that has set the prices of flats in the upcoming multistoried building on fire.

The office of Saif’s production house too is on the second floor of Fortune Heights. The flats in the building overlooking Bollywood’s celebrity couple’s living room have been a treasure trove for the wily builder.

After Saif had bought the penthouse, the area became a hotspot in the real estate market of Bandra. The most celebrated actor had selected this apartment after much toing and froing. Adding to the real estate prices in the area was Saif’s ladylove Kareena’s arrival in the apartment. The buzz around is that the couple is on the lookout for a dream home again.

Bebo said that Saif and she are happy at their present address. They are in love with the vibe of their apartment in Fortune Heights. She feared that with the rise of other buildings around, their privacy may be at stake. That is why they intent to buy a bungalow in and around Bandra. She added that an English-styled villa is Saif’s dream home, but it is difficult to find that kind of home. Or else, the couple would make a happy nest of the topmost apartment in the building opposite.

Sonam Kapoor’s refusal to Kiss Shahid created a ruckus

Walking the most trodden path to stardom that is on-screen kissing is not Sonam Kapoor’s cup of tea. She turned her back when asked to smooch Shahid Kapoor as required by the script for a scene in Mausam during the Scotland schedule. It is in buzz that her refusal to lock lips with the Bollywood hunk raised a ruckus on the sets of the movie.

Sonam was taken by surprise when the film’s director and Shahid’s dad Pankaj Kapoor asked her to do a lip-locking scene with her co-star Shahid. She said that she was not informed of such a scene when she had signed the movie and the script had been narrated to her. “Sonam was taken aback when the director told her about it. She flatly refused”, a source from Mausam’s unit revealed.

The unit added that when the situation went haywire and the shooting took a pause because of Sonam’s determination not to change her mind, Pankaj went ballistic and called her dad Anil Kapoor to save the situation. But, the Bollywood lass stood her ground.

Buzz has that the kissing scene with Sonam was added to the script at Shahid’s behest. It was a shocking truth to Sonam. She denied giving in to her hero’s demand.

Peepli Live becomes best first feature Film in ‘Durban Film Festival’

Movies of Aamir Khan and ‘awards’ have become synonymous even though the Bollywood’s perfectionist is always missing from the awards functions. Maintaining this tradition, the yet to release movie Peepli Live, the home production of Aamir Khan, has bagged its first award in the recently concluded 31st ‘Durban International Film Festival’. The movie has been named as the ‘Best First Feature Film’.

The much talked movie has been written and directed by Anusha Rizvi. This is her directorial debut. Peepli Live is a satire on the farmers’ suicides in India, which is followed by a peculiar media and political response.

On this achievement, Aamir Khan, the co-producer of the film says, “South Africa has always been lucky for me and I think it goes same for Peepli Live also. This is really great news to receive an award from such eminent juries”.

Commenting on the film, the International Jury stated, “Peepli Live is a well-thought and ambitious project covering some serious political issues in a very intelligent and entertaining manner. With some colorful characters, music, and images, the movie creates a delightful world that keeps the viewers engaged in it”.

Aamir added, “All the major film festivals across the world have received Peepli Live very nicely. It became the first Indian film to participate in the competition section at the reputed Sundance Film Festival. It was also well received in the UK and at the Berlin Film Festival”.

The festival at Durban was attended by filmmakers from all over the world, which took place from July 22 to August 1.

The jury at the Durban festival included producers Aihara Hiromi of Japan, South African academic, producer, and writer Bhekizizwe Peterson and Christoph Thoke of Germany.

Aamir further added, “This award is totally different as it comes from filmmakers and film people so it has a value. The film shows how our energy and resources are used only towards urban areas”.

Peepli Live stars actors Raghubir Yadav, Naseeruddin Shah, Omkar Das Manikpuri, Malaika Shenoy, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in important roles.

In South Africa, the Avalon Group will distribute the movie from August 13, the day it releases in India.

Wedding Bells For Vivek Oberoi on October 29

Vivek Oberoi who has over the years acquired the reputation of being quite a ladies man has finally decided to tie the knot. Yes, the self-proclaimed flirt is getting married. The wedding, according to very reliable sources, is on October 29, two months after Vivek’s 34th birthday.

The details about the bride are not yet known. But it is an arranged marriage for Bollywood’s resident Casanova who, in his words, likes to flirt with anyone in a skirt. Vivek’s bride-to-be has been chosen by his parents Suresh and Yashodhara.

In the past Vivek has dated some of the most beautiful women in the entertainment industry including Aishwarya Rai. Before that Vivek dated model Gurpreet Gill for four years before abruptly calling off the relationship.

Since then the Oberoi scion has been linked with various girls.

The most recent link-up was with his Prince co-star Neeru Bajwa.

When asked about Neeru Vivek had said, “That’s all rubbish. I’ve been linked up with 50 girls in last four years. At least 10 of them I’ve never met. No wonder my mother is searching for a girl for me. She wants me to settle down”.

On Saturday when asked about the wedding Vivek hastily begged off saying he was busy and would talk ‘later’.

After the honeymoon, maybe?

Sonakshi Sinha to work with Salman Khan only

Salman Khan, who is taking a very keen interest in the Dabangg debutante Sonakshi Sinha’s career has personally advised her not to sign any more films until her first film is released. This explains why Sonakshi has turned down lucrative offers from several big banners excluding a second film with Salman Khan.

The trailers for Sonakshi Sinha’s Dabangg went on air this week. Immediately Sonakshi Sinha made an impact on many minds including Sanjay Leela Bhansali who wants to offer her a role. But Salman, who has earlier played Christopher Columbus to the likes of Bhumika Chawla (Tere Naam), Zarine Khan (Veer) and, of course, Katrina Kaif (who was re-launched in Haan Maine Bhi Pyar Kiya Hai ), has already blocked Sonakshi’s dates.

Says the pretty debutante, “Yes I am doing another film for Arbaaz Khan. But we haven’t decided on the subject and other details. All I know is that’s the only film I’ve said yes to. Otherwise I’ll wait for Dabangg to be released before signing anything”.

Sonakshi is all praise for the way Salman treated her. “Why only Salman? Arbaaz and Sohail also looked after me like a family member. I’ve been so spoilt by them that I don’t know how I’ll work with other banners where I’d just have to be very professional in my dealings”.

Was she ever intimidated by Salman?

Sonakshi laughs, “Not at all. He’s a really chilled-out guy. If I didn’t have Salman and his brothers to look after me in my first film I don’t know how I’d have gathered the confidence to take the plunge into acting”.

She says she will only do the films and roles that make her comfortable. “That is one thing I’m sure of. I won’t do anything that would embarrass me or my parents”.

Friendly bonds of Bollywood Biggies

India celebrated Friendship Day yesterday. Each nook and corner of the country was filled with an air of celebration. Friends tie friendship bands on each other’s hands and embrace each other to make much of the day. A mix of true and fake friendships is aplenty in Bollywood. Some have survived the odds of times while others have come upon the rocks. Even the rivals are friends in public. However, some Bollywood stars have a high time on this specific day. Here is a glimpse of the strongest friendships that the contemporary Bollywood is known for.

The dostana of John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan has been in the Bollywood air since the release of Dostana. They are in touch and exchanging gifts with each other. Kareen Kapoor not friendly with everyone has surprisingly been in friendly terms with Amrita Arora for a long time. Bebo was bridesmaid at Amrita’s wedding.

Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, two Bollywood biggies are known for their romantic kind of friendship. The duo damn care the public rumors about their friendship. SRK and Juhi have shared the on-screen space in several movies. They are good business partners in real life as well. Hence, their friendship has to be strong.

The friendship of Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Shetty is the oldest one that has braved all odds to remain evergreen. In Bollywood, the friendship of David Dhawan and Govinda is a special mention. David Dhawan, the guru and guide of Govinda, has been the driving force behind the latter’s career in films.

Katrina Kaif restless to get her sister Bollywood break

Katrina Kaif, one of the modern-day Bollywood beauties, is trying hard to set her younger sister on a roll in the tinsel town of Bollywood. Not only an actress but also a business woman, Katrina is leaving no stone unturned to launch Isabelle in Bollywood.

Isabelle has been pursuing an acting course in New York to have a grip on acting accomplishments and the course is likely to be finished later this year. Words from the rumor mill are that Kat is in talks with the filmmakers from her Bollywood acquaintance circle to get Isabelle a break in the movie entertainment world.

One source says that a Farah Khan film stars Isabelle opposite to Salman Khan and the film will hit the sliver screens in 2011. Another source says that Kat’s sister is likely to get her career break in one of the forthcoming movies under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

Surprisingly, Isabelle with rosy hue on cheeks is a copy of Kat in looks and complexion. A tad shorter than her elder sister, Isabelle on strength of her charming looks has drawn the attention of renowned filmmakers, who are in quest of a new pretty face.

Celina Jaitley’s new look!

Celina Jaitley’s strikingly unconventional looks manage to turn heads everywhere. She was recently spotted at the music launch of her upcoming movie sporting a totally new look. Her front bangs coupled with the heavily kohl-ed eyes drew glances everywhere. She has been receiving tons of compliments and some even say that she reminds them of American pop sensation Katy Perry.

When contacted, Celina amusingly quipped, “Yes, a lot of people have said that I look like Katy Perry in certain shots but that is just a co-incidence. Katy and I also happen to endorse the same brand (Proactiv).”

Celina’s new look is for her forthcoming movie ‘Hello darling’. In the movie, Celina essays the role of ‘Candy Fernandes’, a Catholic Anglo Indian girl. The look was designed keeping the same in mind. Incidentally, Celina’s look was thought of two years back when she signed the movie.

Shraddha Kapoor’s dating partner disclosed

Shraddha Kapoor, the 21 year old daughter of Bollywood veteran Shakti Kapoor, is just one film old but she is constantly in the news. Recently, she was in news for walking out of Madhur Bhanderkar’s film after signing a three film deal with YRF. She was even linked with Pratik Babbar and that made news.

This time, the news is about her actual partner, whom she is dating since last five years. Well, the lucky guy is not from Bollywood and this has kept the news under wraps for such a long time.

Vanraj Zaveri is childhood sweetheart of Shraddha, who is the son of a reputed jeweller having stores in different cities. He is studying yet and the families of both the parties are aware of the relationship.

Shraddha made her acting debut with Teen Patti, which starred megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

According to a source close to Shraddha, “It has been almost 5 years, she has been dating Vanraj. They were very close friends since their school days. The close friends gradually fell in love and entered into a relationship. He has always supported her in pursuing acting as a career. They were in a long-distance relation for a year when Shraddha went to study in Boston. He went several times to meet her during that period”.

The source added, “Both the families have approved of the relationship. Vanraj is liked very much by Shraddha’s mother Shivangi. With a group of common friends, they went for a holiday to the US recently”.

The source further said, “The relationship with Vanraj has been kept secret by Shraddha and only close ones know about it. Since they are very young now, they are not interested to make an official announcement about it, especially when the actress has just started her career”.

Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu officially a couple

Taken from

Putting all rumors to rest, Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu have actually gone ahead and confirmed about their status as B-town’s newest couple.

The couple was noticed at the Delhi Fashion Week, and they didn’t seem to hide anything pertaining to their relationship. Khemu said that the two were never hiding anything regarding their relationship from anyone, but declared about it after they both became sure about the feelings for each other. Khemu also said that previously they have done films together, however during that time they weren’t in a relationship.

The couple says that they like to give each other space and work things out, since the whole concept of a relationship is pretty complex.

Seemingly, Soha and Kunal are pretty serious about the relationship. In fact, Kunal has already met the Khan Khaandhaan twice.

He proclaims that he’s a big fan of both Sharmila Tagoreji and Pataudi Saab, Soha’s parents. He believes that they symbolize the summit of the two religions of the nation: cinema and cricket. Almost to show that she’s not far behind, Soha has also gone ahead and met his beau’s parents.

Fashion Trends in Bollywood (1960 – 2010)

Taken from

The history of the fashionable trends or rather the changing trends of fashion in the Bollywood Hindi cinema date back almost to the decades of the 60s till the current phase of the year 2010. And it was in the earlier time zone of time spanning the last four decades of the last millennium that popular star pairs like Dilip Kumar–Madhubala, Rajendra Kumar–Mala Sinha, Raaj Kumar –Meena Kumari, Biswajeet–Saira Banu, Sunil Dutt–Sadhana, Joy Mukherjee–Asha Parekh, and above all Raj Kapoor–Nargis had played a key role in evolving a fashion conscious trendy style of their own, which in the long-run had literally turned out to be a trendsetter of that particular era.

Yet the metamorphosis of these styles endorsed so painstakingly by them had somewhat failed to reach its dizzy heights, its pinnacle even then too as even their collective or individualistic contributions had paled in significance compared to the global standards and parameters of that particular phase. Nevertheless it was their fans who had become their torchbearers by draping themselves in whatever they had flaunted in their on-screen lives thereby gracefully and joyfully albeit blindfoldedly adopting all their styles. Yes, the poor guys used to hang themselves on to every shred of fabric which used to be a part and parcel of their attire just like they were accustomed to hang on to and mouth every bit of dialogues ever uttered by them.

To begin with the analysis of this trendy obsession we go back to the era of Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, who ironically were well-known more for their respective images of a tragedy king and Venus of beauty rather than their wardrobe or their hairstyles. In fact, it was Madhubala’s fetching, winsome, and infectious smile that had a trendsetting impact of its own. The eternal Devdas had lacked in this department too. Later on, it was Rajendra Kumar who had given a boost to executive looks and styles of dressing down while his co-star Mala Sinha had seemed more than happier by slipping in and out of her tight churidaars, kurtas and, of course, hallmarked by her then inventive ‘Chidiyon Ka Ghosla’ (Bird’s Nest) type of wriggly wigs.

And then believe it or faint, the combined haute couture stylish affairs of these two stars were blindly followed by the other stars of their ilk too more especially by Shashi Kapoor–Sharmila Tagore, the latter in her individualistic capacity had also popularized the conceptualized fashion of the tightly knotted at the back kind of cholis probably to kick off a bare backed trend of its own, Jeetendra (who was known more for his obsessive passion and penchant for everything white from headwear to footwear than for his acting skills then) – Mumtaz and last but not the least garam dharm Dharmendra and his better half dream girl (or should it be dream woman by now) Hema Malini. And then but then trust Raaj Kumar–Meena Kumari for being simplicity and serenity personified.

So the former, in tow with the evergreen Dev Sahab (Anand), was content with an ordinary muffler draped round his neck while the latter always relished her plain white and borderless cotton sarees to enhance her tragic image or rarely with heavily bedecked and bejeweled attire to spark off the rich looks of her characters. Then came stars like Biswajeet and Joy Mukherjee who were more fond of their well cut, well tailored (the darzis of that era thrived on them) and well designed trousers rounded off with readymade not made to order body hugging T Shirts. While their co-stars Saira Banu, Asha Parekh and later on even Raakhee, surprisingly aped their contemporaries like Mala Sinha, Sharmila Tagore, Hema Malini, and Mumtaz.

Much earlier, it was Raj Kapoor and Nargis, Sunil Dutt and Sadhana who had indeed made a conscious effort to retain their originality by adopting their own style in whatever they had attired themselves with or more pointedly and precisely with the way they used to present themselves and carry it off with great élan and panache. So what if initially they were barely noticed but later on it had become a fixation for them sometimes too uncomfortable even for their own good like Raj Kapoor’s Russian styled polo necked T Shirts, the trademarked white sarees or the long flowing umbrella styled gowns of Nargis, Sunil Dutt’s cowboy hats (also copied blatantly by Feroz Khan) and designer goggles in tandem with the long strands of hairs covering his entire forehead and mane (which was earlier noticeable even in his son Sunjay Dutt) and last but not the least Sadhana’s especially scissored hairs in steps cut covering just the front portion of her forehead.

To continue further a daring and dazzling twist in the fashion trend that also occurred in the 60s phase itself when the actresses of that era had shed their inhibitions and dared to wear swimming costumes on the celluloid silver screen. And wore they did and how? For i.e. the first ones to kick off this dare to bare trend was none other than Nutan and Tanuja. Yes, indeed they were the first ones to evolve the style of one piece designer style of a swimming costume. Saira Banu and Sharmila Tagore had gone a step ahead in the Eastman colour era. The former wore a shiny, sequined, colourful and a very chamkila albeit a one-piece swimming costume for a film called April Fool, while the latter had worn a shiny one-piece swimming costume for a film called An Evening In Paris and then finally graduating to a two-piece polka dotted bikini for a film called Aamne Samne. How symbolic!

With the conservative actress taking the lead, can the pin up boys oops actors of those times be left far behind. So the first such breed of non actors of those times to herald the trend of going topless by wearing a swimming costume were none other than Dharamendra, Jeetendra, Joy Mukherjee, Deb Mukherjee and above all Biswajeet. Of course the hot-blooded Salman Khan too has blindly followed in their footsteps but with a lot of enthusiastic show off.

Yet in later half of the century fashion trends in the history of Indian cinema seems to have done a complete volte-face. So apart from all the trends of all the stars mentioned herein there are barely anyone which could be held forth or be able to hold its fort on its own especially in the present times too. In between, there was one stray incident, but now forgotten with the time lapse, of the then dress designer Bhanu Athaiya really winning an ‘Oscar’ for her ‘Best costume designing skills’ for Richard Attenborough’s film Gandhi. The only Indian woman from Bollywood to have bagged this honor till this date!

That apart, the worst hit or rather lost, forgotten or totally erased from public memory were the unusually inventive and great styles that were sparked of by Cabaret dancers like Helen, Bindu, Padma Khanna, Faryal, Jayshree T et al. Indeed their sequined, feathery and even the slit at the right angles designer costumes, in tow with Rajesh Khanna’s especially designed Guru Kurtas and Safari Suits, have erroneously failed to find a place in the history of costume designing. That is, if ever there was one written anyway.

Yes, their eclipse certainly signified that the newest breed of the dress designers had arrived and how? No wonder, the present day fashion scenario boasts of a star’s favorite and individual dress designers like Manish Malhotra, Hemant Trivedi, Vikram Phadnis, Rohit Bal, Rocky S and above all Akbar Sharief of Gabbana line of fashion wear. Hence gone are the days of the under rated darzis (tailors) and also of the starry relatives who used to firmly latch on and clutch hold of and even shamelessly cling on to this most lucrative and personalized portfolio which in return had always given them everything from name, fame, and moolah to globetrotting 5 star comforts and luxurious perks.

Yet not everything seems to be lost as the new breed of fashion designers have at least brought in a lot more inventive, innovative, and creative changes on the age-old concepts and trends which were, as it is, on the verge of losing their safe grounds and their forceful impact too.

To proceed further, the last millennium had also seen the then contemporary stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Rakesh Roshan et al glamorizing the fashion trends further with their frilly shirts and flannel trousers aptly rounded off with platform heeled foot wears. While their female counterparts, actresses like Rekha and Sridevi attired most of the times in their bell bottoms and puffed sleeved tops, Jaya Prada in her typical Bhartiya Nari get up of starched white cotton and sometimes chiffon and silk sarees, had indeed made a stylish fashion statement of their own.

Next came the stars lucrative penchant for endorsing brand labels like Big B clad in a Reid and Taylor outfits, his offspring Jr B preferring Armani, Gucci, Ray Ban, Dolce and Gabbana et al both for his on-screen and off-screen dressing up or Fardeen Khan flaunting off his tanned and bronzed brawns in Provogue haute couture ensembles. While their current crop of contemporary actresses like Lara Dutta, Esha Deol, Sameera Reddy, Bipasha Basu, Malaika Arora–Khan et al have gone one step ahead in not only their body piercing acts but also cladding themselves most of the times in their next to nothing looks and attires like mini skirts, halter necked and boob tube tops exposing their midriff or else they just squeeze themselves up in a low rise albeit skin tight designer labeled jeans and sometimes even in a bra exposing see through tops. Not to forget the Dhak Dhak girl Madhuri Dixit in her famous backless choli from Khalnayak or Mandira Bedi, the cricket field sensation, in her noodle straps and garishly offset chakmak sarees.

On the other hand starry actresses like Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukherjee are still hung up on their mania for favoring and possessing their favorite dress designers like Neeta Lulla and Manish Malhotra respectively. Either of whom ended up creating outfits for them as per the demands of their on-screen characters and the off-screen parties or events that they deem fit to grace. But these creatively designed outfits normally turn out to be like worn today and discarded tomorrow. For i.e. the Cannes festival attire created for Aishwarya Rai or the ultra creative different dresses created and perhaps painstakingly stitched for the Queen Bee to complement her outstanding role in Sanjay Leela Bhanshali’s film Black which hardly proves to be a trend setting or stylish fashion statement.

That apart there are some staunch loyalist male stars too like Shah Rukh Khan and Suniel Shetty who strictly prefer to be draped only in the costumes designed exclusively for them, but natural, by their respective spouses Gauri Khan and Mana Shetty. Of course, the latter stacks up and stocks up all of Anna’s after use outfits in their exclusive boutique named ‘Mischief’. Really some mischief this! The same holds true for the chic look of Saif Ali Khan that has always been offset so well in his well crafted suits and casual wear too. His wardrobe till recently was designed by his ex-spouse Amrita Singh until their marital alliance itself went on the rocks.

A special mention out here must be made of Jaggu Dada (Jackie Shroff) who from the beginning of his career till this date has never worn any shred of clothing except that designed by his personal friend cum designer Anna Singh. No wonder that none of these abovementioned stars too have ever been able to create a fashionable style statement of their own unlike some of the yesteryears starry actors or actresses.

Besides them there are certain other model turned actors in the lower hierarchy like Dino Morea, Zulfi Sayed, Jatin Grewal, Aryan Vaid, Rahul Deo and Shawar Ali who still sets the ramps on fire by flaunting off designer labels and creations but in real life nothing goes well with them or tempts them to sport like a casual wear of plain body hugging torn at the knees jeans and T Shirt. The hot blooded Zayed Khan has some interesting revelation in this regard, “I am most comfortable, most of the time in my sweaty T shirt and my thoroughly worn out and torn- at-the-knees jeans rounded off with my stinking body odor. So can anyone say that Zayed Khan or the other actors like me are the most stylish and the most fashion conscious person. But speaking on a serious note in my day-to-day life I am mostly dressed up in my normal and casual attire of jeans and T Shirt. No I don’t believe in chasing the fashion trends but I do get a kick when fashion trends chase me. Besides I do not appreciate flaunting a fashion trend but being a celluloid celeb sometimes my on-screen style itself becomes my own brand of fashion and style statement. And the last one probably holds true for all silver screen actors like me. And now Zayed Khan’s fashion tips. First impression is the last impression sounds clichéd but true. So dress up as per the occasion and maintain your dignity, your poise. Making a genuine impact is more important than making a fake impression.”

Sadly enough it is this could-not-care less-attitude that has made the recent fashion and style statement go for a toss. Yet some of them are still known as fashion icons, but hardly any one star worth his salt in his individual capacity can be known as a stylish or hallmarking trendsetter of fashion. Maybe to some extent Salman Khan and John Abraham but even these two have been caught on the wrong foot by highly popularizing their topless looks. But the latter does deserve a noticeable and appreciative look for his Brad Pitt styled long locks and that unkempt stubble. Now if only that could be branded as a trendsetting fashion statement! But then who knows?

So in summation, the history of the fashion scenario will remain incomplete until a new revolution in fashion occurs and it is signed, sealed, and delivered with scissors, needles, and threads. Amen.

Makeover not to get roles – Amrita Rao

Taken from

Amrita Rao donning a bold avatar in the Bollywood movie Short Kut had astounded many. However the actress, who is best recognized for portraying the image of a traditional Indian girl on the silver screen, claims that she is not going for a complete change.

The 29-year old actress says that she has no uncertainties in portraying characters that have a variety of shades and her celluloid-image depends on the type of roles that she bags.

She rubbished the claims of many who said that she donned her ‘bold’ image in order to get roles. She said that her image has got nothing to do with her getting roles, since she’s comfortable with her own style.

She adds that her every approach is from the same spirit that truly represents the diverse avatars of the standard Indian girl. She also says that she never had any formal training in acting and she has put in her heart and soul in every role she has got so far.

She signs off by saying that as an actress she needs to believe in herself immensely in order to make the audience realize her acting potentials.
